Nori Qamngana-Mayaba, a beautiful young woman from South Africa, recently shocked the world by coming out as HIV positive.
Every year on December 1st, people all around the world come together to commemorate those who have lost their lives to the AIDS pandemic and to learn more about the disease itself.
The beautiful South African youtuber chose to bravely share her tale with the world on this year’s Aids day, documenting the ups and downs of her experience living with HIV.
Nozi rushed to Twitter and wrote;
“Nine years ago, I was diagnosed with HIV.” I kept my sexual orientation a secret from my family for six years because I was terrified. The trek had been lonely and frightening. I hid behind my grin, but I was unhappy and dying on the inside. However, a lot has changed since then.
What was our worst suffering became my greatest PURPOSE. Being diagnosed with HIV did not spell the end of my life. It was the start. HIV has no appearance. Nozibele Qamngana Mayaba is my name. For the past 9 years, I’ve been living with HIV. And I’m still myself.”

Nine years ago, I was diagnosed with HIV. I didn’t disclose my status to my family for 6 years, because I was afraid. The journey had been lonely and scary. I hid behind my smile, yet I was depressed and slowly dying inside. But…a lot has changed since then. pic.twitter.com/HXpdyskarJ
