I Am Sorry – Referee Who Officiated Ghana-Portugal Match Apologies For The Controversial Penalty Against Ghana

Ismail Elfath, the referee who presided over the football game between Ghana and Portugal, has apologized for giving Cristiano Ronaldo a contentious penalty.

A controversial penalty was awarded to Portugal’s captain Ronaldo in their match against the Ghana Black Stars on November 24, 2022, at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Quatar.

Many people were very angry that the referee didn’t use the VAR before giving the penalty. Saddick Adams, a sports journalist, told FIFA that Ismail Elfath should be punished for not reviewing the penalty.

Meanwhile, Ismail Elfath stated that he gave Christiano Ronaldo the penalty based on what he saw on the field at the time. He reiterated that it was a penalty and that the VAR would have informed him otherwise.

He was surprised, though, by the criticism he got from people on social media sites. He also said that he had heard the different opinions of well-known referees and analysts.

Ismail Elfath has denied any animosity toward Ghana or its people, saying he loves the country because he used to play football with Ghanaians
