Modou Adams, a British model and influencer, has been sentenced to seven years in a South American prison for attempting to smuggle £300,000 worth of cocaine out of Peru. The 25-year-old, who once flaunted his lavish lifestyle with 11,200 Instagram followers, was arrested on September 30, 2022. His incarceration was only recently confirmed.
Adams, known for his images in front of luxury hotels, was arrested during his second trip to Peru. He had previously visited in February. The Peruvian Supreme Court confirmed the sentence, referring to Adams by his full name, Modou Dodou Adams.
Adams was reportedly working as a drug mule, transporting cocaine for a share of the profits. Anti-drug prosecutor, Lincoln Fuentes, suggested that this may not have been Adams’ first offense: “The first time he had already taken drugs, probably in the same way, because it was with a prepared suitcase.”
Adams was caught with three kilos of the drug in his suitcase. He was swiftly sentenced and is now serving his term in a Peruvian prison. The case highlights the severe penalties for drug smuggling in South America, with each mule reportedly paid between £5,200 to £6,000 per drug run.
